A military aircraft shot down in Ukraine: 49 dead

Pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine killed a military transport aircraft that carried troops and equipment on the airport Luhansk, announced Saturday morning the Ministry of Defence.

The spokesman of the Ukrainian army confirmed that the 49 soldiers who were aboard the aircraft were killed.

"On the night of June 13 to 14, the terrorists cynically and treacherously shot with an anti-aircraft gun and a heavy caliber machine gun, shooting down a military transport aircraft IL-76 carrying troops rotated and preparing to land" , the military said in a statement.

The army has expressed his condolences to the families of soldiers killed.

The city of Luhansk, located near the border with Russia and capital of the separatist region was the scene of several clashes between the forces of order and pro-Russian Ukrainian rebels. The Ukrainian Ministry of Health says 270 people died there in the last two months, a number that Moscow denies.
