Appreciated since ancient times for its fragrance and color, pink is one of the most cultivated plants in the world. Through the centuries, the flower has evolved and there are now more than three thousand varieties worldwide. Damascus rose centifolia and are widely used in cosmetics for their active ingredients, but also for their delicate perfume fragrances. The petals of the rose hip and fruit, rich in vitamin A and essential fatty acids, are also needed increasingly in care. The rose water is an ancient beauty secret. An anti-aging ally
"It works by stimulating the growth of keratinocytes, the cells that participate in the renewal of the epidermis, says the specialist. It is thanks to them that our skin retains its youthfulness , repairing damaged areas. But also the rose has a moisturizing action. It limits the insensible water loss (sweating, perspiration ...) ensuring a better seal of the stratum corneum, "says Didier Thevenin, director of training at Melvita. In addition, its high concentration of essential fatty acids improves the moisture barrier and also plays on the good quality of fibroblasts, these guardians of firmness housed in the dermis, as well as the production of collagen. Where a skin plumped, a refreshed complexion and immediate radiance. And thanks to its vitamin E, it provides additional protection against free radicals.
A bath of softness
Rose Water is a particularly mild and well tolerated carefully because by using it only benefits the active ingredients, without any restriction on use, unlike the essential oil for example. "By carrying out the distillation of the flower essential oil, approximately 0.2% is obtained very little. In rose water, there are only water and the flower petals. Therefore the risk of allergic reaction "is limited, explains Laurent Lefaucheur. Rose water easily relieves discomfort of sensitive skin. It reduces redness. Its anti-inflammatory action is also very effective for relieving sunburn. It has astringent and slightly tightening the pores. Applied directly to the scalp, soothes itching, overheating and stimulates microcirculation.
Attention to the composition!
As the term "Rose water" is not checked, "some unscrupulous brands, often sold in markets, mix a few drops of rose essential oil to the water, and sell it as a floral water," says Didier Thevenin. With this type of product, it is not the same safety or the same benefits with a steam distillation. To ensure the quality of the product, verify that the list of ingredients does not mention: essential oil of rose (rosa flower or oil).
